CHANDIGARH: The money strapped Punjab Government is facing a crisis with bills pending in the state treasures which include medical reimbursements of employees and pensionary benefits . According to sources, the state finance department is attempting to acquire the Rs 4,100 crore pending sum of Goods and Service Tax (GST) from the union government so that the salary due on December 1 and other obligations may be made.

Punjab Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal had taken the problem of non-payment of GST dues up with Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman during a meeting of the empowered committee of state finance ministers.

The state government has been able to collect only crore in non-tax earnings of the total collection of Rs 9,477 crore this year which stands at only 13 percent. It has managed to amass Rs 18,276 crore as tax revenue in the six months to September this financial year from the estimated crore. In accordance with the budget estimates for the financial year 2019-20, approximately Rs, 17,109 crore is expected to be accumulated from GST. Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh tweeted,”Shocking that the Centre is delaying the GST compensation amounting to $4100 crore as compensation & arrears to Punjab. Urge PM Nnarendramodi & FM @nsitharaman to intervene & solve the problem which has the capability to attract governance of this state to a grinding halt.”

It’s learnt that the finance minister Manpreet Singh Badal has advised the Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh, who’s on a fourteen-day tour abroad to Europe and United Kingdom and is scheduled to return on November 28, on the present financial situation in the nation and had asked him to ask the Centre to launch the cash pending.

Suresh Kumar, the Chief Principal Secretary to CM is currently in United Kingdom for the past couple of days which has brought the government work to a standstill.

An official on condition of anonymity said that the tax revenue from this nation has dropped as because of political pressure from ministers and MLAs if the excise and taxation or some other division Attempts to regain the pending dues from a business house or other establishments They’re compelled not to collect the pending amount.

“The Chief Minister must intervene and notify the elected representatives to not intervene in tax set otherwise it will go down,” he added.

Sources said that the bodies division has directed all of the 28 improvement trusts in the country to sell their assets that have been lying unattended for the last decades off. It is projected that the authorities will get roughly 408 crore as revenue from the sale of properties by the addition trusts in the calendar year.

The state government is also likely to lease out the ten guesthouses possessed by it to private players on PPP style. Punjab Gau Sewa Commission Chairman educated the department to expedite the process so that funds are available for cow welfare activities of issuing of bunny cess telling.
